Good analysis and insight.
While I enjoyed the movie on it's own merits it really did bastardize the novel beyond most recognition. The book deserves a much more worthy treatment. I'm not surprised it turned out this way since Verhoeven couldn't even get beyond a few chapters in the book claiming he got "bored and depressed". The movie, which again I enjoyed, bears so little resemblance to the novel it should not even share the name.

I really appreciate what i've read on this page.I believe in your innovations & your ideas which is encouraging.I wish i would work with you.I would like to get tutorials about move production & some videos of behind scenes.

I've developed my script which is fictional but its drama type and i would like to shoot it but i guess it could cost me a lot for your company to come over to Uganda,East Africa to do the shooting,but all in all it would be a great experience for you to work in Africa & to explore the beauty of Africa as in Nature.

I would love to hear from you so as we can get started.
Thnx

@Michel

That is good advice. Especially if you sense that you may need to change the feeling of the scene when shooting. However, if the actor delivers exactly what you want and you still want that during shoot, I don't think it should stop you from using the actor. A one trick pony may be exactly what you want, if it does it's one trick really good and you don't need anything else.

Very interesting article. I enjoyed the read.

Something I tend to do while holding auditions is not only to ask for some improvisation, but also to ask the actor to audition one more time but with a completely different theme/feeling/goal in mind.

For example; if the scene I have asked the actor to read is about he/she conveying a certain feeling, then ask the actor to read the same scene but this time convey the exact opposite feeling. This gives good hints as to how versatile the actor is and how good he/she is at taking directions.

I got this advice from my Directing instructor (Jonathan Tammuz) in Vancouver, and it really helped me during my auditions. Some actors were great when reading the scene the way they had pictured the scene to be in their heads, but as soon as I asked them to read it in a completely different way, some just froze. Personally that for me is almost always a 'No Go', and it's good to find out which actors are like that before actually casting them and having to find out on set they can't adapt to possible changes later on.
